How Do I Know What Apple Watch I Have
With several iterations of the Apple Watch in circulation, it’s not always easy to keep track of which model you own. Knowing the exact model is essential when you’re looking to buy accessories, update the software, or for any troubleshooting. In this article, we will guide you through the various methods to find out which Apple Watch you have.
Method 1: Using the Apple Watch App on iPhone
If you have paired your Apple Watch with an iPhone, finding the model is a simple task.
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
- Tap on “My Watch” at the bottom of the screen.
- Go to “General” and then tap on “About”.
- Here you will find the “Model” field that shows the model number. You can tap on it to see either the part number which starts with ‘M’ or the model number that starts with ‘A’. The latter is what you are looking for.
Method 2: Check on the Apple Watch
If you don’t have an iPhone handy, you can also find the information directly on the Apple Watch.
- Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch.
- Go to “General”.
- Tap on “About”.
- Here you will see the “Model” field with the model number that begins with ‘A’.
Method 3: Identifying Through Design and Features
If for any reason you are unable to use the settings, you can sometimes determine the series or model by its physical attributes or features.
- Original Apple Watch (Series 0): Square-shaped with a somewhat chunkier body compared to newer models.
- Series 1 and Series 2: Almost identical to the original but slightly slimmer. Series 2 has built-in GPS.
- Series 3: Red dot on the Digital Crown. It was the first model that offered a cellular option.
- Series 4: Larger display compared to Series 3, with rounded edges. The back of the watch is ceramic and sapphire.
- Series 5: Similar to Series 4, but with an always-on display.
- Series 6: Similar to Series 5 but comes with new colors and a blood oxygen sensor.
- Series 7: [As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, the Series 7 was announced, but I do not have information on its physical characteristics. Please check Apple’s official site for the latest information.]
Method 4: Check the Model Number on the Watch Case
You can find the model number engraved on the back of the watch case.
- Take off your Apple Watch.
- On the back of the device, find the round charging area, and near its edge, you’ll see text engraved.
- Look for the word “Model” followed by ‘A’ and four numbers (e.g., A1858).
Method 5: Use Apple’s Official Online Tool
Apple provides an online tool to identify your watch model by entering the model number.
- Follow the steps in Method 1 or Method 4 to find the model number.
- Go to Apple’s identification page: https://checkcoverage.apple.com
- Enter your Apple Watch model number.
- The tool will show you which Apple Watch series and model you have.
Conclusion
Knowing the specific model of your Apple Watch is essential for compatibility and service requirements. Whether through the settings, physical characteristics, or Apple’s official tools, identifying your Apple Watch model can be achieved with ease.
